My First Salmon
I’ve had many desirable, and enjoyable times fishing on the Cascapedia River.
One of my most resent happenings was when I caught my first fish.
My father and I were fishing on Barters Pool one evening.
When I asked what I do when I play a salmon my dad just looked at me like I was stupid!
As if I was supposed to know it all, he’s the one who’s been fishing for as long as he can remember, not me!
But after I asked all my questions, and got them all answered he handed me his precious ‘so-called’ Bogdan rod and reel with a 15 pound salmon on the end, told me to sit down, shut-up and that I knew what to do.
By the time we had gotten to shore he was yelling and screaming at me and I was mad.
Not quite what I expected, a 10 foot rod jamming in my stomach, my dad yelling at me, and a salmon racing down river only to be tired out and hit in the head with a big rock.
After I had caught and killed my first salmon I was told I had to kiss it!
Well I didn’t care I still caught one before my sister did.
Even thought I was yelled at and under what I guess you caught call stress it was still and most definitely one of the greatest and best moments.
I hope there are many more moments like it to come in the future.
